Proofread everything you send out through email. You need to make sure all emails and newsletters are correct. Prior to transmitting the message, check a sample of the email to make sure that it looks the way you intend for it to look. Also, check any links you include in the email to ensure they work.

Use A/B testing to view the subject line. Pick one email then send one half of them with one subject line and the other half of them with a different subject line. This gives you the information you need to figure out which subjects work and which don’t.

Make sure that email formats are tested. To make sure it gets the most attention, important information should always be in the top portion of your emails. Experiment with a variety of formats, though, to determine which formats provide the best responses. After you have identified which format is most effective, you should continue utilizing it. This familiarizes customers with your emails and makes it easy for busy customers to find the most important parts of your emails.

One marketing email per week should be sufficient to maintain communication with your customers. Your customers are busy and don’t want to be bombarded by too many messages. Sending more than one a week may make them skip or delete your messages without regarding your work.

Develop a strategy that addresses your customer base. While persistence is key, you should also make sure that you’re targeting the right customers, or it won’t matter much in the long run. If you’re persistent with people that aren’t interested, they will just get annoyed and that’s a waste of time.

In all your emails, you need to use a call for action. Tell your audience what you expect from them. If you have links, make them obvious and include the instructions on how they should be used. For best effect, use a call to action at the beginning and conclusion of your message.

Preheader materials should be taken advantage of. Preheaders are essentially the initial line of characters from the email itself, rendered in highlighted text. Because many email providers display it after the subject, it is an effective method of attracting attention.
